CFDs

Lots, nano, pt/lot, and how to match a futures micro on a CFD broker.

A contract for difference is an OTC product from your broker. You do not own the future. You trade the price difference.

  • Lot size and $/point are set by the broker, not CME
  • Names look like NAS100, USTEC, US100, XAUUSD — not NQ
  • 1 lot on one broker is often not 1 lot on another
  • You trade lots, then set pt/lot in Hextrade

Exchange futures sizing (mini / micro / ticks) is on Futures. Hyperliquid tokenized indexes are on Crypto.

Note

Portfolio contract type mt5 is the CFD path. Always confirm pt/lot on your broker’s spec sheet. Hextrade defaults are a starting point, not a guarantee.

What is a nano?

Nano is a CFD / forex size, not a CME futures contract. There is no NNQ in Hextrade.

  • Forex — 0.001 lot (100 units). Mini lot = 0.1, micro lot = 0.01, standard = 1.0
  • Index CFDs — a very small broker-defined size, sometimes 0.01 lot

Use MT5 / CFD mode and a small lot, or a lower pt/lot, to approximate nano risk.

What is pt/lot?

pt/lot is dollars of PnL for 1.00 price point on 1.00 lot.

P&L = price move × lots × pt/lot

Hextrade Portfolio defaults when pt/lot is empty:

  • Index CFDs (NAS100, US500, US30, JPN225) → $1 / point / lot
  • Gold (XAUUSD) → $100 / point / lot (100 oz)
  • Oil (USOIL) → $100 / point / lot (100 bbl)

Override if your broker’s spec is different.

CFD P&L examples

NAS100 at the default $1/pt/lot, up 10 points:

  • 1.00 lot: 10 × $1 = $10
  • 2.00 lots: 10 × $2 = $20 ← same as 1 MNQ
  • 20.00 lots: 10 × $20 = $200 ← same as 1 NQ

Match a futures micro on a CFD

lots = futures $/pt  ÷  your CFD pt/lot
You wantFutures $/ptCFD pt/lotLots
1 MNQ$2$12.00
1 NQ$20$120.00
1 MES$5$15.00
1 MGC$10$1000.10
1 MCL$100$1001.00

Tip

Gold and oil CFDs are often $100/pt per lot. 0.10 lot of XAUUSD ≈ 1 MGC, not 1 GC.

What to set on a CFD account

Set contract type to mt5, pick the broker ticker (NAS100, XAUUSD, …), then set pt/lot from the spec sheet. Confirm one small fill before you scale.
